(21)The Baptism in the Jordan is first of all a mystery of light. Here, as Christ descends into the waters, the innocent one who became "sin" for our sake (cf. 2Cor 5:21), the heavens open wide and the voice of the Father declares him the beloved Son (cf. Mt 3:17 and parallels), while the Spirit descends on him to invest him with the mission which he is to carry out

Let us pray a scriptural decade

 for the first luminous mystery

Our Father

In those days came John the Baptist/preaching in the wilderness of Judea (Mt 3:1)

Hail Mary

I baptize you with water for repentance/but he who is coming after me is mightier than I,whose sandals I am not worthy to carry (Mt 3:11)

Hail Mary

He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire (Mt 3:11)

Hail Mary

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John,to be baptized by him (Mt 3:13)

Hail Mary

John would have prevented him, saying, " I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"' (Mt 3:14)

Hail Mary

But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; (Mt 3:15)

Hail Mary

for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness." Then he consented.(Mt 3:15)

Hail Mary

And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened' (Mt 3:16)

Hail Mary

and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him'(Mt 3:16)

Hail Mary

and lo, a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. '(Mt 3:17)

Hail Mary

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit./  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.
